Elul

Elul- The Hebrew month of Elul, preceeds the month of Tishray. Tishray is the month Jewish people celebrate the Holy days starting with Rosh Hashana.

The month of Elul is an important period of clarifying life's goals, and of coming closer to God, with the Jewish people.

We belive that when the Holy day of Rosh Hashana comes, each individual stands before the Almighty to ask for forgiveness and another year of life.

During the month of Elul, many people perform a spiritual accounting, we step back and look at ourselves critically and honestly, to remember if we hurt anyone by Verbal, Physical or even in a mental way trying to ask forgiveness and improve are way of living.

It is the Ashkenazi custom (Jews from Eropean country's)to blow the shofar every morning after prayers during the month of Elul.

Historically, the month of Elul has great meaning. It was on the first day of Elul that Moses after the sin of the Hebrews around the Golden Calf ascended Mount Sinai to receive the second set of stone tablets. Forty days later -- on the (seminal Yom Kippur) Moses returned with tablets in hand, signaling peace between the Jewish people and God.

On the Saturday night before Rosh Hashana, all the High Holiday preparations intensify. We recite "Slichot," a special series of prayers that includes "13 Attributes of Mercy."
