SHABBAT

Just as G-D created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh day, as written: "and G-D called the Seventh day SHABBAT" from the word Lee'Shbot meaning- to rest!

Adults work For six days (all week long), and Children go to school, but on the Seventh day "Shabbat" We rest and enjoy Shabbat with the family.

With some family's parents get the kids involved in Shabbat preparations: On Fridays after school and before going to Synagogue, the children help Mother or father to Clean the house by picking up the toys, put dirty clothing in the hamper, help wash the house pet, sometime they even help with the cooking. Later on the older children can help with setting the table and the young ones can help with putting the napkins next to the plates, or a picture for Shabbat they drew special for this occasion.

Father comes home from work bringing Flowers for the Shabbat table.

After all that work, the family gets ready for Shabbat by washing up, dressing with special Shabbat clothes, shoes, etc.

It is an old European tradition to serve a special dish called collect which is cooked on very low heat for over 24 hours. (In a traditional religious home they do not turn on and off the stove or oven-it is considered work),this way the Tcholent is always hot and ready to serve.

When everything is done Mother and daughters lights Shabbat candles . In some family's the family lights the Shabbat candles together, go to temple, to welcome Shabbat. After services the family returns home along or with company and sits down to the Shabbat meal.

Days, Shabbat and Holidays always start the evening before at sun-down.

After the Father or eldest say the Ha'Motzee- Bracha-Blessing over the bread/challa and the Kiddush- Blessing over the wine, bless the children, the family enjoyed the meal followed by conversation songs and games.
