Yom Kippur or Yom Kippurim

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is observed on the tenth day of the Hebrew month of Tishri, Ten days after the 1st day of Rosh-Hashana,( First day of Tishri.)

The 10 days between Rosh-Hashana and Yom Kippur are called "The days of OWE"

YOM-KIPPUR is marked by a 24 hour fast and prayers. We ask to atone for our sins of the past year and ask of G-D to help us be a better person.

We have several names to this Sacred of all Holy day.

YOM KIPPUR-Day of Attonment
YOM TSHUVAH-Day of Repentance
YOM HAH'DEEN-Day of Judgement
Yom Tru'ah-
Blast of the Ram's horn.

On Yom Kippur Attonment day, we read the story of "Yona and the Big Fish" to our children,(look at Activities).

Showing truly that we mean the words we say when we pray, can only be done by admiting we have wronged in the first place.

Saying "I'm sorry, asking for forgiveness is a start.

At times "sorry" just does not take away the pain or embarrassment, mental, physical and Verbal abuse we caused. Sorry is just a word; we need more than a word. Action speaks louder than words, so go out and show by doing.

. We have to make sure not to repeat the wrongs we did in the past we FAST on Yom Kippur- 24 hours of fasting, asking G-d to forgive us, Asking G-D to help us be strong and ask forgiveness of the ones we wronged.

Promising not to repeat the bad thing we did, and Be a better person.

This is how we can truly repent.

At the End of Yom Kippur the Sound of the Shofar is herd.

A Shofar is made from a curved horn of a Ram which has a sharp, Strong sound. IT is very difficult to blow into SHOFAR and create a sound.

, תקיעה גדולה- is A Long, loud blow at the end of Yom Kippur service which usualy, is joined by Shofareem (more than one Shofar)brought by the Temple members from home.
